Dry Creek Valley Wine Tasting Tours
The Dry Creek Valley AVA is an American Viticultural Area located northwest of Healdsburg in Sonoma County, California. Dry Creek, a tributary of the Russian River, creates the valley, which is approximately 16 miles (25.7 km) long and 2 miles (3.2 km) wide. In this relatively dry area, the appellation benefits from the proximity of the Lake Sonoma reservoir for irrigation.
Dry Creek Valley is a premium winegrowing region in northern Sonoma County, California, where over 150 winegrowers and 60 wineries produce wines of distinction from a wide range of grapes, including the world-class zinfandel for which it is best known. This diversity stems from our AVA’s distinct characteristics, which include a wide range of soil types, elevations, and exposures to sun, wind, and water, all contained within a narrow 16-by-2-mile valley.
Exploring Dry Creek Valley is a simple process. There are two roads, five stop signs, and 10,000 acres of unending beauty here. Visit a winery and shake hands with the owner while tasting the current releases, or choose from a variety of experiences ranging from vineyard hikes to blending classes to food-and-wine pairings and much more. Winemakers invite guests to discover the endless joy of wine paired with life in the beautiful Dry Creek Valley through these experiences.

Rock Hill Winery is tucked into rural Placer County just off Sierra College north of Loomis. The winery is surrounded by a decent vineyard with a very scenic vista. You first enter on a weird cobblestone driveway that may seem quaint but is very bumpy almost to the point of annoyance. The main tasting room is easily accessed with paved parking and a nice exterior. The tasting bar is a U-Turn around the main office with a horseshoe shape and bar stools.
Their tasting menu is very generous with nearly 10 different wines, although the taste and quality were inconsistent. To be fair, You may yet to find a Placer County winery that might appeal to your palate and several of the wine blends are interesting.
